Join the Zeitcoin
movement.
Cryptocurrency can seem daunting but we’re here to explain just how simple it is to purchase coins. Follow our easy steps and you’ll soon be the proud owner of Zeitcoin.
Start with a wallet.
Download for Windows or Mac
In order to hold your cryptocurrency, you need first need a "wallet". The first thing to do is identify your operating system and download the correct version. Once you have your wallet we’ll go through the steps to get set up. Run the Wallet once, so that it creates the required folders on your system. You can leave it to sync but it will take a long time. We suggest closing the wallet then taking the next step.
Download the blockchain snippet
So that your wallet can synchronise with the rest of the blockchain it has to connect and download these
blocks to your wallet. This can take a long time. We can speed this up by downloading a copy and moving
it to your wallet folder.
Use one of the links suitable for your internet speed. The slow connection is split into 4 files and does
not require a Megasync account.

Windows instructions
OSX instructions
Find the folder you installed the Zeitcoin wallet into on your C drive. Identify five files and two folders
then delete them:
.lock
blk0001.dat
blk0002.dat
db.log
debug.log
database
txleveldb
Open folder: Library/Application Support/zeitcoin
This can be hidden. Here’s a good direction how to find that folder. Identify five files and two folders in Library/Application Support/zeitcoin and delete them:
.lock
blk0001.dat
blk0002.dat
db.log
debug.log
database
txleveldb
Then Extract and copy the files from Zeitcoin Blockchain Snapshot that you just downloaded into the Zeitcoin installation folder. Run the wallet again. When you open the wallet it will begin to sync with the blockchain. This time it will take a while to open and a little more time to read the larger Blockchain.
Encrypt and backup your wallet
It is important that you take measures to ensure that your wallet and your Zeitcoins are secure. Make a backup
of your wallet. Click File > Backup Wallet. Save this to a secure location and name it with the date.
The
wallet.dat is the most important file as it contains the private keys to access your coins on the
Blockchain and also contains the address that you might have generated to receive coins. It may also include
those automatically generated addresses if you have received coins as interest if you were staking.
Take regular backups if you are minting/staking so that the address the wallet has generated remain in your latest backed up wallet.dat file. If you are not regularly minting/staking then your wallet isn't generating any new addresses and the last backup you took is fine. Have these stored in multiple locations. If storing the backups in places accessible to others including cloud backups we recommend encrypting the wallet.dat in winrar or a truecrypt file. Be sure to test and make certain you can open the file to access your wallet.dat file.
Find an exchange.
Convert currency to Zeitcoin
In order to purchase Zeitcoin you first need to use an exchange. Unless you already have other cryptocurrencies
such as Bitcoin or Litecoin you will first need to purchase these at an exchange using FIAT (USD, GBP,
EUR etc.). Some exchanges can accept deposits from your bank but this takes time to verify. Others can
use a credit card or other form of payment.
When you have Bitcoin, Litecoin etc. you can use these to purchase Zeitcoin. Once you have Zeitcoins they
will stay on the exchange until you transfer them to your own wallet. Copy the receive address from your
wallet and use this on the exchange to send your coins.
